One of my favorite mini-series. Excellent adaptation of Edith Wharton's novel detailing the trade offs on both sides when rich American heiresses marry into titled but financially precarious English families. The "new money" Americans can't break into supposedly democratic society in the US because they didn't arrive on the Mayflower, and hope that a daughter with a title will provide the entrée for business and social climbing on both sides of the Atlantic. Colorful, costume drama is well acted and showcases the talents of many of today's well known actors before they were bona fide stars. Wonderful score as well. Shades of Downton Abbey, but without the upstairs downstairs aspect.
